A Geek and Almost a love story – 4

Exams ended with me and Naina exchanging phone numbers. And me gaining loads of confidence.
I was a bit apprehensive initially, but as time passed, we became good friends. Naina belonged to a rich upper middle-class joint family. Her father was a lawyer of repute but her mother had passed away when she was 5.
She was very sweet, matured and sensible. And was a great talker. We used to text each other every night which turned into phone calls after 3 months or so. And we used to talk about almost everything.
One thing I found really surprising was that no one in our college knew about our friendship. It was our little secret. And I never cared to find out the reason.
By the end of November, Naina had made me change my hair style (she said short hair suited me more then the curly mop), she had advised me to try T-shirts instead of those loose hanging shirts I used to wear, taught me how to flirt (she made me try it practically on herself), and many other things. In short, she had totally renovated my physical and mental attributes.
Well, I don’t think It’d be necessary to mention, but I had fallen in love with Naina. But I feared conveying this to her(due to the obvious reasons of losing her friendship).

Now it is time that I introduced you to my two firends – Shayan and Virat.
Shayan, was short, fair, and the biggest flirt you’d have ever seen. He was that type of a guy who’d go at all lengths to impress a girl, and take it all the way to the “Final destination”. That was all he wanted.
Virat was the son of a rich father, and was a spoilt brat. Careless, ruthless and brainless.
But I never paid any attention to these profound qualities of theirs. It was against the friendship and bro-code you see. I always believed that we were the perfect buddies. They did the same, but only during exam times or when I was supposed to treat them. For the rest of the time, they used to mock me for being a nerd and being so afraid of girls.
It was the 31st of december, the night before new year. We had gone to Virat’s farmhouse on the outskirts of the city to party. There, they forced me to drink. And I did drink a lot, thanks to Shayan who managed to persuade me that it was cool to do so.
I was totally gutted.
I think it was Virat who started,”Hey nerdy, tell me, why don’t you have any girl friend? Are you gay ??”
“Even I think so. Even the guy with the braces in our class has kissed a girl. What about you nerdy?” Shayan never let a moment slip out of his hands to taunt me.
I got so furious, or maybe it was the alcohol, that I told them everything about Naina and me and even showed them the texts(and told them that I loved her).
Obviously, they didn’t believe me. So I called her up.
“Hello? Hey Naina.” I tried to sound normal, and I had the phone on the loudspeaker.
“Hi Ram, where are you?” She asked.
“Later. First tell me one thing, do you like me?” I was out of my mind.
“Umm…..yeah I like you idiot. You’re really sweet. But why do you ask?”
“It’s because I Love you Naina, you’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met. You’ve the most beautiful pair of eyes. You’re the most dependable friend I’ve ever had. I fell for you the very first time I saw you in the examination hall. And I know you love me too. So,please confirm it.”
It was done.
There was no reply on the other side. I felt dizzy in my head, and, sadly, without even hearing what she said……..I passed out.

to be continued
